It would be great to dismiss these teams but looking around at the top of the table only Liverpool seem to be able to do that this season. Chelsea nicked a couple of 1-0 wins against WBA and sunderland, Man city struggled at home to Boro as well, Man Utd drew at home to Burnley. Its simply not that easy to dismiss 'weaker' teams at home these days, especially when out of form, and its not just us

Yes Russ, you should throw all ambition out if the window, along with your desire to watch decent football. It's all ok because we've picked up some points and Bilic is a likeable bloke apparently.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Burnley - The Official Match Thread
Think the difference between a top four side and relegation flirters is all about the ability to put the likes of Burnley on their arse in the second half.

Sadly we have to accept we are not a top four side or even remotely one.

Or should we all be over the moon with desperately hanging on to a 1-0 lead at home to a an absolute fucking shower of a Burnley team??

Shut up you fucking mong. We are talking about West Ham. Is that not allowed on a West Ham forum?

I think everyone's over the fucking moon with the 3 points but if people want to discuss the detail of a match then what's the problem?

You lot are so fucking miserable.

It's as if you started supported West Ham in 2015.

Also, what the fuck is this?

"The team came out second half drilled to play 'keep ball', passing it around the back and all that shit."

Well of they were then they are fucking shit at it because in the second half I think we struggled to string more than three passes together. The old hot potato syndrome again!!

"Still we got 3 points so apparently it's ok."

That's the problem though isn't it. You find yourself in a fucking hole because of shit performances and all of a sudden the be all and end all is three points.

So its almost like Bilic and the team perform fucking awfully for ages, end up near relegation zone and then almost get a free pass for the turd they served up in the second half last night because their previous turd had meant that the be all and end all is three points.

Almost getting rewarded for being shit because all everyone cares about is three points.

But I suppose that's the nature of being in the shit.

Agreed. It's not a new phenomenon though. There were plenty of games last season where we only played well for 45 mins. Poor tactics, poor setup, poor mentality and the football is dreadful hoof it crap for the most part. Still we got 3 points so apparently it's ok.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Burnley - The Official Match Thread
It seems Bilic is persisting with the go ahead then sit back, keep possession and hit on the break strategy. This is a perfectly sound strategy if you are a Barcelona.

However for us it is disaster. The team came out second half drilled to play 'keep ball', passing it around the back and all that shit. It just invites the opposition onto us and we are no where near good enough to pull this off. We need to up the intensity and if we go ahead to up the intensity more, press hard and rip their bollocks off with effort.

Bilic is still getting this wrong and is why we have lost 12 points this season from winning positions, the most of any team in the league

Great win - 3 points, I'm happy!

If a ticket holder does not turn up, its still a paid seat. So must count as an attendance, thats the stat they choose to read it seems

Good result past night but there are no positives to take from the performance. It's depressing how wrong Bilic continues to get it. We will struggle again against Hull, hopefully getting the win but more so confidence. We are a fucking terrible side at the moment. Three at the back is shit too.

I'm a bit BAMBOOZLED as to why Bilic decided to revert back to ultra defensive 5-4-1 after we played so well playing last seasons formation against Liverpool.

I think we look terrible playing 5-4-1.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Burnley - The Official Match Thread
Overall we were the better team, just. Again we go 1-0 up and the hand brake comes on and we allow teams as poor as Burnley to turn up and play. Very frustrating.

Carroll was winning every header only for him to be completely isolated. If you play Carroll you need another forward player up there with him. Why cant Bilic see that?

Overall it was great to get the win and unfortunately our season has become about getting points whatever way you can just to try and stay in the league.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Burnley - The Official Match Thread
Result - Amazing
1st Half - Decent
2nd Half - Shocking

First and foremost it was three points and that's the bottom line. Desperately needed and now we move onwards with a bit more confidence.

First half we looked a lot better than of late. Moved the ball quicker. Created space to try and pick a pass in the final third. Had some good chances. Was decent.

But the second half was everything that I would say was wrong with a football team. No attacking intensity or creativity. Couldn't maintain possession (hot potato) and didn't create any chances of note. Ayew almost scored from nothing but apart from that I can't recall much.

Defensively it was even worse. The defence lacking confidence dropped off and then so did the midfield creating a great vacuum between strikers and the rest of the team. So Burnley had acres of space and loads of time to hold the ball and look to create. Albeit they more often than not just lumped it in long but a better team kills you with that time and space.

No pressing on the ball. No intensity to get the ball back. Players just getting by-passed. It was a demonstration in how not to do everything when you don't have the ball.

They need to press from the front and maintain a high line. Burnley can't live with that as they aren't good enough. They will just keep giving you the ball back. But when midfield and defence are so deep when it gets lumped in and cleared it just falls into the space for the opponent to pick up and start again. Last night it was just like we were sitting in the trenches waiting for the shelling to stop.

The defence simply resorted to going long to Carroll and he was up against two so lost it and off we go again.... Get deep and hope to clear what comes in. It's bloody awful. No composure or confidence to do the right thing and play the right way.

Bilic needs to get a grip of them and start getting to defend properly as a whole team again. You can't just sit deep and hope for the best. You have to do things when you don't have the ball to influence and dictate how the opponent attacks you.

Having said that I am just grateful for the three points and we can take a breath and compose and move onto the next game which is very winnable. If we can get a few more points on the board and get comfortable then maybe we can iron out a few of the issues with a bit less pressure.

That must go down as our worst ever win. Awful performance, winning 1-0 in 1st half injury time with a missed penalty rebound.

Shocking.

Can't remember too many times when we've come out of a bad patch with a sparkling performance and a 3-0 win. Last night was always going to be a nervy game. Got to follow it up against Hull now.

Johnson, my point was that it was the 'official attendance' and not the actual amount that were there.
